About Stoyan Varnaliev

In the late autumn of 1968, in the house of Ivanka and Kiro Varnaliev in the village of General Inzovo, Yambol Region a second baby boy, Stoyan, was born.
The child was weak but had a wonderful voice. It was perhaps at that moment that the hesitating fairies had preordained: "This boy should be a singer!"
So the boy lived to fulfill his destiny, regardless of the difficulties. Nothing - be it the life at this remote part of the country or the neighbours' gossiping - could stop him or make him change his mind.
He sang song after song with his childish quavering voice? And still there was something missing, something he did quite like about his singing. What was it? He did not know for certain but continued looking for it. And one day he stopped and listened in fascination to a song which sealed his destiny. The voice was of Valkana Stoyanova and the songs bewitched him forever.
In 1997 Valkana Stoyanova officially gave him as a present 80 of her songs, part of which she had never recorded. These songs has their final say in his creative career. Regardless of the fact that he lives in Sofia now, his repertoire features only songs from the unique in style Yambol Region in Thrace. Listening to the songs of Thrace, one can feel the beauty of a girl's garden, smell the sweet basil and the roses in it and the flowers in the fields; one can sense the atmosphere of the horo dancing at Easter, of the husking bees, of ploughing the land. Such are the songs of Thrace - Bulgaria.
